How to Consume Cannabis Without Smoking
Smoking cannabis through a joint, blunt, bong, or pipe is the most long-standing method to do the drug. However, many people do not like to smoke due to stigma, health reasons, or simple preference. Thanks to new technologies (and the creativity of stoners), there are a number of ways to consume marijuana. If you don’t want to smoke weed but still want to reap all the wonderful benefits of cannabis, here are some alternative ways to do so.
Vaporizing or “vaping’ cannabis is one of the trendier ways to get medical marijuana into the system. Instead of torching your bud with flames, a vaporizer heats up its chemical compounds at a lower, less harmful temperature. The result is a cleaner high since vapor is much easier on the lungs than smoke. Vape pens are our favourite small and discreet way to inhale weed!
Oils & Edibles
Weed brownies used to be the only known way to eat your way into a body high. But, cannabis can technically be infused into any recipe that calls for butter or oil! It can be a risk to make and bake your own marijuana edibles because it’s difficult to control dosage, so we recommend buying treats from a trusted source. Ingestible oils are also available for those who prefer a couple drops under the tongue.
Cannabis-infused alcohol tinctures are similar to oils in that they are ingested through the mouth/tongue, but they enter the bloodstream much faster. This allows for better dose control since you know just how high you’re getting soon after consumption. Tinctures can also be added to a drink, for a lightly boozy weed cocktail!
Another popular way to use cannabis is through creams, lotions, and balms. Marijuana-infused topicals can be applied directly to the skin for localized relief. This is great for people suffering from pain, soreness, and inflammation, including some symptoms of arthritis. In this method, there is absolutely no psychoactive effect.
